BRASELTON The West Jackson Fire Department has received a $5,000 fire service grant from FM, one of the world’s largest commercial property insurers.

Because fire remains the leading cause of property damage worldwide, FM has contributed millions of dollars in grants to fire service organizations around the globe for nearly 50 years.

“At FM, we strongly believe the majority of property damage is preventable, not inevitable,” said Michael Spaziani, assistant vice president – manager of the fire service grant program. “Far too often, inadequate budgets prevent the organizations working to prevent fires from being as proactive as they would like. With additional financial support, grant recipients are actively helping to improve property risk in the communities they serve.”

Through its Fire Service Grant Program, FM awards grants to fire departments—as well as national, state, regional, local and community organizations worldwide—that best demonstrate a need for funding, where dollars can have the most demonstrable impact on helping organizations better prepare for emergency incidents, ultimately enhancing safety and resilience in the community.

"We are grateful to FM for helping our department fund the technology needed to gather and store data on buildings, hazardous materials and infrastructure in our fire district. The more information we have before an incident occurs, the more successful our response will be," WJFD Fire Marshal Shannon Martin said.

Established nearly two centuries ago, FM is a mutual insurance company whose capital, scientific research capability and engineering expertise are solely dedicated to property risk management and the resilience of its policyholder-owners. These owners, who share the belief that the majority of property loss is preventable, represent many of the world’s largest organizations, including one of every four Fortune 500 companies. They work with FM to better understand the hazards that can impact their business continuity in order to make cost-effective risk management decisions, combining property loss prevention with insurance protection.
