EPA Contacted for Petroleum Smell off Charlie Cooper Road

UPDATE: BRASELTON, Ga. (Dec. 28, 2023) — The Jackson County Emergency Management Agency is working in the area and cleaning up a diesel spill that occurred at the Pilot Station in Braselton for the next several days. BRASELTON, Ga. (Dec. 25, 2023) — West Jackson Fire Department contacted the Georgia Environmental Protection Division and Jackson County EMA concerning a strong smell of petroleum off of Charlie Cooper Rd in unincorporated Jackson County.

Georgia EPD is working on the environmental issue with the stream and waterway. They are leading the investigation and the incident has been turned over to their personnel. The impacted area is in the Town of Braselton’s water service area, however the water system is not affected per Town officials. The Jackson County Water & Sewerage Authority and the Bear Creek Water Authority have also been notified.
