Community Training

Community Training

Public education provides an effective avenue for proactively reducing hazards and loss of life and property while simultaneously strengthening the ties between the Department and the people we serve. For further information about any of our community training programs, contact the Fire Prevention Bureau 706-654-2500 X 1 or Inspectors@wjfd.org.

Some of our free community education activities are,

Station Tours– You can schedule a station tour for your family, school groups, church groups, girl/boy scouts and more.  Station tours usually include viewing the main areas of the station, the trucks and visiting with the firefighters.  Kids of all ages will be allowed to sit inside the truck and talk with the firefighters who can educate and answer questions regarding fire safety, fire trucks, and the daily life as a firefighter. You can even get to see what a firefighter looks like wearing their turn out gear!
Tours may be scheduled between the hours of 10:00am and 7:00pm any day of the week.

Fire Engine Visits– Firefighters will visit local schools and daycare facilities to give children tips about fire safety, show off the fire engine, demonstrate fire gear, and teach them not to fear firefighters in emergency situations.

Fire Safety Trailer– This fire risk reduction classroom on wheels will help children learn what to expect and how to react if the room or building fills with smoke.  The fire safety trailer is equipped with a system that fills it with “safe smoke.” Participants learn how to safely crawl through the trailer to safety.
